* Sheridan, a member of Parliament from 1780 - 1815, one day was annoyed with fellow members of the House of Commons who kept crying out every few minutes, "Hear! Hear!" (a parliamentary expression of approval). To express his exacerbation he stood and proclaimed the above witty quote and received the response he desired.
